Right so... what can I say? Life at UCSC has been going pretty well so far, I think I'm adjusting nicely. Classes just started on thursday so I'm still getting used to HW and stuff but I think it'll sink in after this week. I've started to notice some of the really good things about college that I hadn't thought about before though. For one, there's always a place I can go to eat and I don't have to make it myself. There's always ready-made food, that's good for the most part, that I can eat pretty much any time during the day. I also like living literally on campus because I have a couple classes where all I have to do is walk across a courtyard to get there. My earliest class is at 8:30 but I could probably wake up at 8:25 and still make it on time. Living in the dorm is pretty chill too, there's no one telling you what you can and can't do, and no one telling you when to go to sleep and when to do your hw. I think my sleep schedule has already shifted by like 2 hours in only a week. Probably the earliest I went to sleep all of this week was about 1:00 and then I'd just end up waking up fairly late. The hills in Santa Cruz are unpleasant at times, especially the hill I have to walk up to get to Crown College, where I live. I thought my legs would be partially in shape after doing marching band for 4 years, but wow was I in for a surprise. Hopefully after a few months though I'll begin to develop some real leg muscle. Walking up and down that hill gives me good exercise though, which helps me sleep at night. I hope to be getting into some intramural basketball soon to give myself a break from classes and hw and just to have some fun. Hopefully that'll be a good experience, but it's been a long time since I played semi-organized basketball.
I've found it hard to get a hold of tv show episodes now that I don't have a tv to watch them on anymore, which sucks, but BitTorrent has become my new best friend. I highly recommend Season 2 of Prison Break because it just keeps getting better, better than Season 1. Season 3 of Lost starts next wednesday, Season 4 of The OC starts in November and Season 6 of 24 starts in January. Saw III comes out at the end of October so I'm definitely looking forward to that.
It's been a while since I updated this thing, and I doubt that I'll keep up with it (because Facebook is that much better), but I guess I can try. It's 2:11, I gots to sleep.

Matt

It's hard to believe that it's been almost 3 weeks since graduation. This chunk of summer has passed pretty quickly. I've been trying to make the most of it, and for the most part I've had a lot of fun. Having a job makes it really different in various ways, but having that extra money helps out a lot. Ananth reminded me yesterday that I never got around to doing a MB post, and at this point I dunno if I ever will. It isn't like it totally dropped off the face of the earth for me, though. The other day I drove by the CHS field on the way to work and I actually got a little depressed over the fact that I'm never gonna be able to march on that field again, or any field for that matter. It's impossible to express how much I'm gonna miss MB because it was such a big part of my high school life. I dunno where I would be if I had decided to quit MB as a freshman. I've been thinking about it a lot and it really sucks because this coming year really seems to be shaping up for a solid year, if not a very successful one. I hope to come back and visit for a few competitions, if possible, so I don't completely lose touch with MB. But yeah, that was hardly the MB post that I wanted to make, so maybe more will come later when I have the energy to really put some thought into it.

Like I said, the summer has been great so far. I've been hanging out with friends a lot, and one special person in particular a lot as well. I've watched many movies, in theaters and on DVD. I've reached 200 with my collection, and I think that's pretty impressive. Anyways, summer has been a lot of fun. I just really hope that it doesn't end here.

Stress

Dealing with stress comes from experience. Why is it that you seem to encounter the most stress that you've EVER HAD when you're a teenager? I'm not equipped to handle everything that's being thrown at me right now. And I only suspect it's gonna get worse next year in college. You know what I think the key to coping with stress is? Happiness. You have to have some time where you're HAPPY. If you don't have that time, it's near impossible to keep going on with your life. But let's define then, what exactly is happiness? Of course everyone has that spur of the moment type happiness where they laugh or they smile because of something that someone said or did. But that isn't the type of happiness I'm talking about. To really be happy, you not only have to enjoy where you are. You also have to enjoy where you're going. (props to Bora on that, I read it on his xanga a while back). You have to have something to look forward to. Otherwise, you get caught up in everything that makes your life a living hell, and you can't stand it any longer. Everything gets so built up to the point where it's about to hit the fan.

It's about to hit the fan right now.

If you're reading this and you think that I should stfu because your life sucks more than mine does, then please, by all means, comment and say so.
